Celebrity Mama-to-Be: Jaime Ray Newman

Congratulations to Jaime Ray Newman who’s expecting a baby girl sometime this August. The actress and her husband recently celebrated the oncoming arrival of their daughter with a rooftop baby shower bash over the weekend. At the event, the actress and star of ABC’s Red Widow, opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop in an interview about her pregnancy and thoughts on becoming a mom.

When asked for her thoughts on her pregnancy, Newman commented, “Thankfully, I’ve been feeling really good. Now I’m starting to slow down and my feet are getting a little tired, but up until now I’ve had a lot of energy and I’ve felt great! I love being pregnant.

Newman also appears to be ecstatic for her approaching motherhood. On what she looks forward to the most as a mom, the actress said, “All of the endless nights of sleep I am going to get. [laughs] I am just excited to have something bigger than me and Guy out there. You get so self-involved and wrapped up in yourself, especially in our business, so it will be really nice to have something more significant than us.”

Fourth of July Guide for Pregnancy

At Nine Naturals, our staff is heading all over the country for the Fourth of July – to the Pacific Northwest, out to Long Island and down to the south. It got us thinking about the necessary precautions that pregnant ladies should take to stay safe during your barbeques and outdoor adventures and enjoy the holiday. Here are a few reminders:

  1. Be wary of unrefrigerated food, uncooked meats and fish high in mercury. Food that has been left unrefrigerated for too long is a bacteria risk such as potato salad or anything with mayo. Also be cautious of barbecued meats. Make sure that whatever meat products you’re eating has been thoroughly cooked. Uncooked or insufficiently cooked meat and fish can put you at risk of contracting food poisoning from bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli, or campylobacter. Also be mindful of the type of fish you eat. Avoid large, predatory fish, such as marlin, shark and swordfish, which are known to contain high levels of mercury.
  2. Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water! Soda and sugary drinks just won’t cut it. Let’s face it, you’ll probably want to be outside, enjoying some activities, taking a turn on the grill. You should enjoy the holiday! But take into account that you’ll be sweating, thus losing more water from your system than normal. So keep a BPA-free water bottle handy! Dehydration during pregnancy can be serious—insufficient fluids during the first trimester can lead to insufficient amniotic fluid and, in the worst cases, cause premature labor.
  3. Try to stay out of the sun. This goes hand in hand with staying hydrated because the heat from the sun speeds up the rate of dehydration. But this doesn’t mean that you have to hide indoors; a reasonable amount of exposure to the sun is fine. We recommend naturals ways of safeguarding yourself from the sun as well as our next point—sunscreen.
  4. Sunscreen is your best friend. Correction—all-natural, non-toxic sunscreen is your best friend. Be sure to apply a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 45. And even if the forecast near you isn’t looking all that bright for this July 4th, sunblock is still a good idea, as pregnancy causes the skin to be more sensitive to the sun.

  5. Be careful when walking after sundown and being in overly packed crowds. Enjoy the fireworks! Since fireworks happen after sundown though, watch your step in the dark! Also, be cautious of going places with rowdy or packed crowds where you run the risk of getting pushed around. Fashion Friday - Footwear

shoes

During pregnancy you might not be able to wear sky-high heels or stilettos but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on cute footwear. Here we have a guide for keeping your feet chic and comfy while pregnant.

  1. Keds As classic as they get. They come in every single color of the rainbow and every summery pattern you can dream of. They also come in several different styles—lace up, slip-ons, flats—so you can mix it up. This summer Kate Spade has teamed up with Keds to release a Kate Spade line of Keds’ footwear. We’d like to take a moment out and point our favorite: the navy and white striped Keds x Kate Spade New York Pointer.
  2. Espadrilles. Popularized by Toms, espadrilles are perfect for the summer because they’re a light, breathable kind of shoes you can wear them without socks. But watch out, although, these style of shoes are flat, so they’re comfortable to walk in, but unfortunately have little to low arch support. So keep that in mind when on the hunt for the perfect pregnancy shoe. If you’re in the mood for a splurge, Chanel has these uber chic fabric espadrilles.
  3. Wedges. When we say wedges, go for a more modest wedge with a teensy bit of height. High-heeled shoes are usually the safest bet for a pregnant mom because they increase the chances of accidentally rolling your ankle. But, if you’re in the mood for something a little more exciting than flats and sneakers we love wedges because they’re chunky and offer more foot support than normal heels. A perfect example of a good wedge is this one by Tory Burch.
  4. Sandals. The weather is perfect to break out the sandals. They come in a various assortment of size and styles and materials so you’ll have a lot of freedom with finding what you want. Just watch out for sandals that are too tight and too strappy as they may restrict the amount of blood flow in your feet. Here’s a pair by Modcloth we love.
